Ulla Stina-Wikander, a Swedish artist proceeds her signature cross-stitched interventions on domestic objects. In tightly fitting cross-stitched designs, items traditionally affiliated with housekeeping, such as electrical mixers and sewing machines along with hammers, wrenches and axes, are cloaked.
Artist sources the cross-stitch tests from market, and is pulled in to their association with the now-anonymous individuals who made them. These weaving have been made by ladies and are frequently seen as kitsch and respected as beautiful worthless, Ulla states on her site. In utilizing them in her mediation, the artist gives the abandoned textile a modern life.
