20 July 2019 marked the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing. LEGO paid homage to the renowned astronauts by constructing a life-size Lego spacesuit of the astronaut Buzz Edwin Aldrin. The 6 feet, 3 inches tall model is displayed at the Apollo 50 Festival hosted by NASA and the Smithsonian to inspire the next generation of space explorers.
It took nearly 300 hours, 44,051 Lego blocks and a team of 10 Lego masters to build the Apollo 11 spacesuit. They have captured the details of Neil Armstrong’s visor reflection by carefully observing the photos of Aldrin walking on the moon’s surface. It even includes moon dust on Aldrin legs using grey LEGOs and the flag of America is made by using red and blue LEGOs.
